Chicken Large Yarn Bowl, Crochet bowl by Blueroompottery
Which came first the Chicken or the Yarn bowl? In the end it doesn't matter, this wheel thrown Chicken Yarn Bowl is just what you were looking for.
Made to Order
This bowl is made on the wheel and then a sculpted head, tail and wings are attached to it.
It is glazed shiny white and topped with a red comb. Of course this chicken has yellow beak and its neck and tail feathers are light brown. There is a hole in the chicken's mouth for the yarn and two more under each wing. And of course there is a yarn slit, with SMOOTH edges so that the yarn can slide easily, on the back of the bowl underneath her tail. But watch out for eggs :)))
As with any yarn bowl you just place the yarn in the bowl and pull the thread through the slot as you knit. The bowl will keep the ball from rolling across the floor, out of your kitty's playful paws, and it will twist and turn in the bowl as it gets unraveled while you knit!
Our yarn bowls are a nice hefty size as you can see from the photos.
It is approx. 8 1/2-9 inches wide and 4 inches tall.
The one you will be ordering may be slightly diferent from the photo since each one is individually made and there is a slight variation from piece to piece. Very large and useful yarn bowl.
This yarn bowl would make a great gift, or wedding gift, for those knitters you love or just buy it for yourself.
This is a fun piece, Marietta first made it for a customer that was looking for a chicken yarn bowl and couldn't find one. And as she says "It is inspired by Folk Art pieces from her youth, and it's like a play piece for me, taking me away from "serious" pottery for a while, playing a bit and remembering my childhood!
So ENJOY!!

Here is some recent feedback left by some satisfied customers:
Marcia on April 27, 2012 wrote to me:
"Hi Marietta,
My bowls arrived! Thank you, they are beautiful. The design in even better than the photo. The craftsmanship is flawless - smooth rounded edges and surfaces that won't catch yarn and smooth bottom that won't scratch tables. Your work is far superior to yarn bowls friends have. I love leaving my bowls out with knitting handy."
...and another customers said:
"It's so beautiful! It's so useful! It's already supporting a scarf underway. It's bigger than I thought but then I hadn't thought too hard about the size that it would be to contain two balls. I'm using the open slit and it guides the yarn without snagging. Very well made, wonderful glaze and a very pretty cutout design. Thanks so much!"
